Angelic Sound One (5): Finalise the Design
After refining the concept, we finalized a design including driver unit selection that incorporates key elements of a high-quality speaker system.
Woofers
Configuration: Two Eton 12-212 12-inch woofers in a symmetrical layout. The Eton woofers are known for delivering clean, detailed, and balanced sound reproduction. They excel in accurate bass response and low-frequency extension, making them ideal for subwoofer or bass applications. Eton woofers are used in premium audio systems, including Rolls-Royce sound setups.
Design Features: A 7-degree tilt in the woofer arrangement for better focus and sound convergence (some may say low frequency is generally non-directional, but I don’t believe we should compromise as we are chasing the final performance levels); Dual woofers further reduce distortion to ensure articulate, deep bass.
Mid-Range
Configuration: Two Accuton C173-6-191-FG 6.5-inch ceramic Bass-Midrange drivers. Accuton pioneered the use of ceramic diaphragms, which are exceptionally rigid and lightweight. This minimizes distortion and delivers highly detailed, accurate sound. These drivers are used in ultra-high-end speakers from brands like Tidal, Kharma, Gauder Akustik and Marten.
Design features: Dual mid-range drivers in a symmetrical layout further reduce distortion, deliver clear and accurate mid-range frequencies, essential for a balanced sound.
Tweeter
Configuration: The BlieSMa T34B-4 beryllium tweeter stands out for its large diameter, allowing it to cover an impressively wide frequency range from 1.5 kHz to over 30 kHz. Most notably, it excels in producing harmonics above 1.5 kHz that are predominantly Second-Order Harmonics, which contribute to a rich and pleasing sound. At the same time, it minimizes Third-Order Harmonics, ensuring the sound remains smooth and avoids the edgier, more aggressive tonal qualities.
Design features: The tweeter is often considered the 'soul' of a speaker, and I firmly believe that a single tweeter design is ideal. The BlieSMa tweeter fits this philosophy perfectly. Positioned at the centre of the speaker to create a clear focal point, it is expected to deliver detailed and natural high frequencies while ensuring accurate sound imaging.
Moving Forward
This design reflects a balance of ambition and practicality. By using premium components and relying on Fire Wolf’s expertise, the Angelic Sound One is taking shape as a speaker system that meets my performance goals while remaining cost-efficient.
It’s an exciting step forward, and I’m looking forward to seeing (and hearing) how it all comes together.
A special thank-you to Sophia who helped digitise the concept drawings and put them in 3D!
